Exhibition Statement

I have always been a very trusting person, perhaps to a fault. So, when I was 16 and my mom read my journal—the only truly protected space I had at the time—it broke me. I had my model pose as if trying to pull the edges of the paper back around them in an act of self-preservation or an attempt to regain control. The words are taken from my journal and are proof that, through art, I can take the power back from the people that hurt me and be vulnerable on my own terms.
