Exhibition Statement

I designed these shoes in response to an assignment in my Painting I class that prompted us to create a composition inspired by the relationships between complimentary colors. The day that it was introduced, I happened to be wearing a Prince shirt—an artist known for his iconic use of purple and yellow—and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to utilize his snazzy style as my inspiration.

I have always loved the design of Prince's famous "Cloud" guitar (the silhouette of which can be seen in the upper left corner) and, given that the motto of the Jordan brand is, of course, "Take Flight," it was only fitting to combine the two into a pair of shoes that pay homage to the life and work of the one and only Prince of Funk.
