Exhibition Statement
Sharpies have always scared me. My working theory is that it’s the bold, unapologetic permanence of them that makes the hyper-perfectionistic parts of me feel threatened. So, for this piece I only allowed myself to ink with Sharpies, which required me to let go of—or else work alongside of—my mistakes. In exhibiting this piece, I am presenting my whole self, my art and all its imperfections, to the viewer; this vulnerability is what I wanted my composition to represent.
